What is an Energy Cleanse?

Mind Body & Spirit Are Ageless!!!

One of the most disillusioning things as a counselor dealing with both mentally ill or those who simply needed to manage specific problems or stress, was the lack of connection between mind, body, and spirit.  The reality is, both in mental and physical health, there is much the individual can do to alleviate their symptoms, which in turn, may negate the need for intervention altogether, or at the very least, minimize the help that is needed.  The reason this is so
important is because our bodies are healing machines that are designed to care for themselves.  But over-indulging lifestyles and medications that often make us sick and keep us from getting better partly because they are not getting to the root causes.

Our bodies have what is called cellular memory, in which individual cells store the memory of an experience that affected the whole body.  This could be a good or bad memory but the bad can come back to haunt us physically – thru illness - or emotionally (PSTD).  These stored memories lie dormant in our cells in order to protect us from the same event in the future.  This becomes a problem when we are in a situation that presents no danger, but the conditions of the situation feel the same as those that caused the stored memory, therefore, our cells send a message to our brain telling it that we are in danger.  This sets the flight and flight response, which, in my opinion, is the physiological basis of post-traumatic stress.

Furthermore, when the retention is negative, it releases toxins specific to the memory which gets stored in the liver and can pop up when circumstances feel similar. An energy cleanse can help ward this off by clearing old negative energy before it releases itself.  These cleanses come in many forms.  It can be thru guided meditation, a clearing out of individuals who bring bad or stuck energy to your life, Dietary change, a liver detox, Reiki (chakra work), clearing up debt, de-cluttering your house, and even moving to a different geographical location away from a climate that kept you depressed.  But unless we do a multi-cleanse approach, meaning that we clear out stuck energy in all nine key-life areas,  achieving 'wholeness' will be nothing more than a game of ‘Wack-a-Mole’ where, just when we’ve gotten rid of one major energy drain in our life, the head of another pops up and, while we are fighting that one, another sneaks back in somewhere else. That's because an energy drain in one key-life area will inevitably spill into another.  For example, a financial independent woman marrying a man who is chronically unemployed will not only create relational problems down the road, it will spill over into finances and, if it continues, health issues for the partner who is carrying the biggest load.  Therefore, at the very least, three key-life areas are out of balance because of her choice of a mate and the imbalances created in the non-relationship areas will create new disturbances in even more key-life realms.

Sometimes we need to clear current-event energy and other times we must clear past energy imprints.  A newlywed couple in their second marriage recently shared a situation with me.  She had been divorced for 10 years and thought she worked through the painful events in her first marriage.  Not long after this couple was married, the husbands’ mom got sick and that meant he had to keep leaving town to help with the care and decisions.  She was unable to go with him because of her job.  In her previous marriage, her ex-husband had gone on multiple 'business' trips over a couple of year period that she later learned was an affair and his work had never sent him on any trips at all. These old memories reared their head and, even though she knew there was a legitimate reason for her new husbands travel, she became anxious and looking for signs that he had interests elsewhere.

Ironically, she had begun a liver cleanse right about the same time so, unbeknownst to her, the toxins of those memories were being released from the liver and the feelings and memories from that time surfaced as though it was the present and it skewed her perception of their current situation.   Realizing this, she stopped the cleanse immediately, though she recognized the opportunity to work on her unresolved issues and gain new skills to manage the fear and her current reality.    She plans to do another ‘guided’ cleanse when she is more settled in her marriage but feels the overall experience helped her to trust more and believe in the ‘now’ rather than viewing the present through lenses from the past.

In general, a liver cleanse will, over the duration, releases toxins from past events and can be a great tool for people who are not currently under stress but looking to clear out old energy and remove their personal roadblocks to fulfillment.  I personally prefer a slow and gentle cleanse rather than an aggressive approach.  The detox, by eliminating the negative memory toxins, can remove the obstacles that prevent or slow the ability of the body to heal itself.  In other words, if the body must work to keep the toxins contained in the liver, it has less energy to focus on healing itself.  And when the poison gets released from time-to-time in mirror circumstances, without being resolved, the body can enter a state of ‘dis-ease’, which will then merit a ‘disease’ diagnosis.  I don't advocate doing a liver detox if one is already in a stressful situation because it may only exacerbate it.  On the other hand, doing one at the right time can release stuck energy that one thought was long gone, and it is likely to truly be permanent release.

They secret is, understand the nine key areas of your life and what is feeding and bleeding them.   Choose your biggest life obstacle and start with doing a cleanse there.  Once that is underway, continue to detox and declutter each area in order of priority of life obstacles.  I'm a fan of doing diet and nutrition early on to give your body the foundation and stability to work through the rest.  The hardest part of this life-long approach is in that first year learning how each life area affects the other and how an imbalance in one throw the other realms off.   Over time though, when that next energy vampire steps up in any form, it is much easier to recognize it for what it is and send it packing before it leaves you bone dry, laying high and dry on the side of the road.
